What is the Immaculate Conception of Mary?
We don’t celebrate the Immaculate Conception because Mary conceived Jesus. We celebrate it because God gave Mary the special gift of being free from Original Sin from the moment she was conceived. It’s a celebration of God’s love, Mary’s special role, and the beginning of God’s plan for our salvation.
We celebrate the Immaculate Conception on December 8, nine months before Mary’s birthday feast on September 8.
