Laura has been involved in music ministry her entire life. She grew up attending Mass at St. Mary's Parish in Mineral Ridge while her grandmother was the music director there. She would often sing in her choirs and programs there, which is where her love for the ministry began.

Laura holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance, Piano and Theater from The Dana School of Music at YSU. Laura was the cantor and assistant music director at St. Edward’s Parish in Youngstown from 2001-2019. Following her time at St. Edwards, she became the Music Director at St. Michael Parish in Canfield from 2019-2024. Laura is also involved with the cathedral choir singing for special masses at St. Columba.

Laura is the owner of Laura Kunkel’s Music Studio where she teaches private piano and vocal lessons at her home in McDonald, Ohio. She has been teaching piano and vocal lessons since she was 18 years old. Laura also teaches Musical Theater classes at Jones Dance Academy in Niles, Ohio. Over the years, she has been involved in numerous productions at The Youngstown Playhouse, Move Over Broadway, TNT Theater and performing with jazz singer, Helen Welch.

Laura lives in McDonald with her husband Tim and her three boys, Finn, Mason and Oliver. They are all excited to start this new journey here St. Charles Borromeo Parish.
